PAPA Presents The Odd Couple

This Spring, the Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) is presenting a production of Neil Simon's classic comedy 'The Odd Couple,' which promises to bring neighbors, friends, and family together. The play depicts the story of a clean freak and a slob, which unfolds when a group of guys gather for their weekly poker game at the apartment of a divorced sportswriter, Oscar Madison. As the events unfold, we witness how Felix Ungar, who has just been thrown out by his wife, ends up as Oscar's roommate. However, as Felix's behavior becomes increasingly difficult, Oscar's patience begins to wear thin, leading to a series of events that culminate in a dramatic showdown between the two.

The Odd Couple features an outstanding cast comprising Michelle Saarela, Terry Pero, Lou Benjamin, Doug Ivey, Ed Kercado, Jim Bedsole, Dan Kniffen, and Michael Homeier. The play is being directed by Dennis McClain and Sarah Daly Weir, and PAPA is excited to be back on stage for The Plaza's 15th anniversary year. There will be four performances of the play, scheduled for April 20, 21, and 22 at 7 p.m. and April 23 at 2:30 p.m., all of which will take place on The Plaza Arts Center's stage.

Tickets for The Odd Couple are priced at $25 and $20, with $10 student tickets also available. You can purchase your tickets online at plazacenter.org.

PAPA is a theater performing arts group under the umbrella of The Plaza Arts Center, which was founded and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1978 by a passionate group of Putnam County residents to create opportunities for local artists and talents interested in performing.

Behind the Curtain at The Plaza Arts Center

The Plaza Arts Center is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2023, marking a significant milestone for the establishment that was once just a dream, a thought, a concept. The success of the past 15 years has been made possible by the support of patrons, members, and donors who have helped to grow the youth education program and entertainment lineup.

To commemorate the occasion, The Plaza is planning a special event that promises to be unlike anything patrons have experienced before. Behind the Curtain is an exclusive event that will give guests a behind-the-scenes look at the theater. The evening will begin with an intimate concert, followed by cocktails and mingling, and culminating in a plated dinner on the historic Plaza stage.

The first Behind the Curtain show will feature Kazanetti Quartet, paying homage to The Plaza's inaugural year. The group served as The Plaza's artist in residence 15 years ago and was instrumental in forming the theater's bond with the community, particularly with the youth. The group will perform, teach, and visit the community once again, as they continue their mission to enrich lives through music.

Behind the Curtain with Kazanetti Quartet will take place on April 28th at 6 p.m. Tickets are currently available exclusively to Plaza members, and can be purchased online or by calling 706-923-1655. With limited tickets available, patrons are encouraged to act quickly to secure their spot at this unique and upscale event.
