Good morning!

There is a certain kind of trust that gets built slowly, one showed-up appointment at a time. It is the mechanic who tells you the truth instead of running up the bill. The guy who clears your dock of spiders before you even ask. The hospital that is investing in your knees, your caregivers, and your kids, long before you ever need them to.

This week's LO Down is a love letter to that kind of trust. We are highlighting the local businesses and the community hospital that have earned their place as the ones you call first, not because they advertise the loudest, but because they show up right.

Grab your coffee and let's talk about the people who make this lake feel like home.

⭐ St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital: More Than a Hospital, A Neighbor

If you have driven past Good Sam lately, you have seen the growth. But some of the best things they are doing for our community happen quietly, in exam rooms and support groups and training sessions you might never hear about otherwise. This week, we wanted to shine a light on a few of them.

Caring for the Caregivers
Parkinson's does not just affect the person diagnosed. It reshapes life for the spouses, adult children, and friends who step into the caregiver role, often without a manual. St. Mary's Good Samaritan's Parkinson's Disease Support Group exists for exactly that reason, bringing together patients, caregivers, and family members to share resources and lean on each other. Recent sessions have featured guest speaker Richard Behra on the realities of caregiving, plus a "show and tell" where attendees swap the tools and tricks that actually help day to day. If you or someone you love is navigating a Parkinson's diagnosis, this group is a soft place to land.

Is It More Than "Just Getting Older"?
Knee pain has a way of sneaking up until it is running the show. In the latest Health Insights Mini-Pod, Dr. Randy Lavender walks through how to tell the difference between normal wear and tear and pain that is worth addressing, what non-surgical options are worth trying first, and what recovery from a knee replacement really looks like. It is a quick listen, and it might save you a lot of guessing. 🎧 Listen to the Mini-Pod

Training for Our Youngest Patients
Good Sam was also recently selected to join KidsABC, a statewide initiative from Mercer University's School of Medicine and the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center, supported by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, that helps rural hospitals like ours strengthen pediatric emergency care. Through hands-on training with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Arthur M. Blank Hospital, the Good Sam ER team is building the specialized skills needed to care for kids when every second counts. It is one more reason our community can trust that quality care is close to home.

From caregiver support to pediatric readiness, this is what "community hospital" really means.

Featured Partner: Boatworks Lake Oconee

When your boat is acting up and nobody else can figure out why, locals know exactly who to call: Matt. For more than two decades, Matt Misuraca has made boat mechanics his life's work, training at Marine School in Orlando and staying sharp ever since through continuing education with the Marine Service Excellence Through Education & Training program. That kind of dedication shows. He's licensed, insured, and equally at home under the hood of a wakeboard boat, a fishing boat, or your family's weekend cruiser.

Boatworks handles it all: tune-ups, oil changes, winterizations, electrical work, water pumps, and repairs across virtually every major engine brand on the lake, from Mercury and Yamaha to Volvo Penta and Suzuki. Need to outfit your boat too?

But ask around and the real draw isn't just the expertise, it's the trust. Boat owners consistently describe Matt as honest, patient, and the kind of mechanic who explains what's actually wrong instead of running up a bill. That reputation is exactly why Boatworks has become the name locals pass along to each other.

LO Cheer Co.

New school year, new routines, new energy to burn. LO Cheer Co. in Eatonton offers cheer and tumbling classes for all ages, led by former UGA cheerleader Ansley Lee and co-founder Ashley Grimsley. It is a great way to help kids build confidence and structure as the school year settles in.

True Roots Turf

If your lawn is looking more "science experiment" than putting green lately, you are not alone. Between the heat and the rain we have had, yards all over the lake are dealing with weeds popping up overnight, and yes, even mushrooms. Brian Boatright with True Roots Turf says it is classic heat-and-moisture territory, and his team handles fertilization, weed control, and disease protection with a program built for our local soil and climate. He is offering free estimates right now, so it is worth a call before things get worse.

Southern Dock Solutions

Labor Day will be here before you know it, and if your dock has spider webs, mud dauber nests, or a season's worth of grime built up, now is the time to call Mac Bedor. Southern Dock Solutions handles it all: pressure washing, spider and mud dauber removal, boat cleaning, and minor repairs to keep your dock guest-ready. As a Lake Oconee Life follower, mention us and save 25% on a membership plan. Get on Mac's schedule now before the holiday rush fills it up.

PlumpJack Collection Wine Dinner at Table at the Lake

Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 27, when Table at the Lake hosts an evening centered around the PlumpJack Collection: wines from PlumpJack Estate Winery, CADE Estate Winery, Odette Estate Winery, and Adaptation. Please note, Table at the Lake can only accommodate gluten-free and vegetarian requests with advance notice.

Local and trusted is not a tagline, it is earned.
