Good morning!
If you're wondering why The LO Down is landing in your inbox on a Friday instead of our usual Thursday, I have the very best excuse: her name is Daphne Louise. My third grandchild (first girl) arrived Monday, and I've been in Augusta soaking up every minute. You'll meet her in this week's Editor's Pick and trust me, she's worth the wait.
The rest of this issue is all about making summer simple. Cafe 44 is taking dinner off your plate (well, putting it on your plate) with their weekly Dinner To Go, just know these sell out fast, so read on for how to reserve yours. Lake Country Books & Gifts has your summer reading covered, whether you're a page-turner or an audiobook listener, don't miss the bonus-credit deal through their Libro.fm partnership when you sign up.
Add Hart & Crown Tavern in Madison to your must-try list (the sticky toffee pudding alone is worth the drive). Our Father's Day guide is a quick, simple read but full of great inspo⦠including gift certificates from Southern Laser Medical Spa that are easy to grab before the big day. And Classic Collision Center in Madison? That's a number I'd add to your phone right now, before you need it.
So pour your coffee, settle in, and let's get to the good stuff, starting with one very sweet introduction.

β Dinner's Handled, Thanks to Cafe 44
If you've spent any time at Lake Oconee, you already know Cafe 44. It's where mornings start around the lake area, locals catching up over artisan coffee and a stack of those famous buttermilk pancakes. By lunch, the line sometimes stretches out the door, and once you've had the California Club (voted one of the best 100 meals in Georgia), you understand why.
Now they're making your evenings easier too. Summer at the lake has a way of filling up fast the dock gets crowded, the guest rooms fill, and suddenly it's 5 o'clock and everyone's hungry. That's where Cafe 44's Dinner To Go comes in.
Wednesday through Saturday, the team prepares a fresh dinner that's ready when you are. The menu changes weekly and is announced at the start of each week on their Facebook and Instagram, so give them a follow to see what's cooking.
Feeding a smaller crew? The 2β3 serving dinner is $38.99. Got a full house? The 4β6 serving option is $65.99. Either way, it's a homemade meal without ever turning on your oven.
One thing to know: these dinners sell out quickly. Reserve yours early, call no later than 10 AM the day of, or better yet, order in advance.

This Weekβs Hotspot
Hart & Crown Tavern
Sometimes the best lake day ends with a short drive to Madison. Tucked on the square in the historic downtown, Hart & Crown Tavern serves up British pub classics with a Southern accent and it's absolutely worth the trip.
Think beer-battered fish 'n' chips, bangers 'n' mash, and shepherd's pie alongside shrimp and grits made with Marsh Hen Mills grits and andouille sausage. Start with the Tavern Pretzel and beer cheese or a proper Ploughman's board, and whatever you do, save room for the sticky toffee pudding. If the name MAD Hospitality sounds familiar, it should, this is the same group behind The Sinclair and other Madison favorites.
Hart & Crown Tavern is open Monday through Saturday, 11:30 AM to 9 PM, for lunch and dinner. Gather your crew and go raise a pint.

Fatherβs Day at Lake Oconee
Skip the Box. Get Dad Something Good.
Father's Day is June 21st and we are here to help you do better than a gift card to nowhere and a pair of socks. Think a private wake surfing lesson on the lake. A chef-prepared dinner at home. Fresh-cut steaks from Scratchers. An African safari excursion he will talk about for years. Wellness treatments he would never book for himself but will absolutely thank you for.
We rounded up the best local ideas to make this one memorable, from the water to the table to the spa. Head to the blog and find the gift that actually fits your dad.

Southern Laser Medical Spa
Still shopping for Dad? Skip the necktie this year. Southern Laser Medical Spa, the Lake Oconee area's original med spa, locally owned and operated by medical professionals since 1998, has gift options Dad will actually use. A sports or deep tissue massage is the perfect recovery after a long day on the course, and their advanced treatments can tackle everything from sun spots to tired skin after a season in the lake sun.
Gift certificates make it easy: pick one up, tuck it in a card, and let Dad book on his schedule. Call (706) 485-7200 or stop by 921 Harmony Road, Suite 2 in Eatonton.

Editorβs Pick

Welcoming Daphne Louise π
This week's pick isn't a restaurant or a hidden gem⦠it's a picture of my first granddaughter, Daphne Louise, who joined our family on Monday.
Many of you know my oldest daughter, Madi. She's been part of Lake Oconee Life almost from the beginning, helping with these very newsletters, serving as editor in chief of our Locals Guide Books over the years, and managing our socials from time to time. So in a very real way, this little girl was born right into the Lake Oconee Life family too.
I've spent this week in Augusta helping Madi and her crew make the beautiful transition from a family of three to a family of four. We are all completely over the moon with this sweet girl.
Welcome to the world, Daphne Louise. We can't wait to show you the lake. π

This week reminded me that the best things in life rarely run on schedule, newsletters included. π
However you're spending these early summer days, I hope they're full of good meals you didn't have to cook, books you can't put down, and people you love. Thank you for letting our family be a small part of yours, week after week.
Check the calendar for everything happening around the lake and we will see you out there.
